ABOUT US
Our Mission
HOPE (Help Our People Eat) Community Services is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization serving the people of New Rochelle and surrounding communities.
HOPE Community Services provides:
a warm, inviting atmosphere of personal and respectful service to the disadvantaged of this community;
for the needs of body, mind, heart and spirit.
HOPE Community Services challenges its clients to achieve:
personal responsibility;
healthy self-sufficiency;
a fuller appreciation of their dignity and self-worth; and
recognition of the interdependence of themselves and others.
HOPE Community Services provides its services in an unbiased and non-discriminatory manner.
in 1984 when our founder, Mary Lou McNaney, responded to the problems of hunger and homelessness in New Rochelle. Taking the name “HOPE”, an acronym for Help Our People Eat, she and a handful of volunteers, opened a Soup Kitchen. A Food Pantry, providing bagged groceries, opened later that same year.
Now the largest emergency food program in Westchester County, HOPE continues to rise to the challenge of its founder – striving to meet the needs of its community with warmth and respect.
It all began …
More than a Soup Kitchen …
HOPE has become a full-service community organization. We oversee one of the largest volunteer operations and have fun doing it.
All our programs and services are free.
